“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18b-20
In these verses, referred to as the “Great Commission,” Jesus makes it clear that we are to share the Gospel with all who will hear. Because we highly value the Gospel, we challenge each other to both global and community outreach.
As a church we are blessed to partner with many missionaries who faithfully serve in countries all around the world. Throughout the year, we have opportunities to get to know, partner with and pray for these missionaries. We love and respect those who have dedicated their lives in this way.
Many from our congregation participate in short-term opportunities on their own and through various ministries of our church. Our student ministry teaches our teens the value of missions and outreach by providing mission opportunities here in Wausau and abroad.
While “going” is an important part of global outreach, we know that the “Great Commission” is not just for those who travel to the far corners of the world. Christ commands each one of us to “go…and make disciples of all nations.” That includes our own nation, communities and neighborhoods.
At Immanuel, we place a very high value on personal evangelism and active personal outreach. We want to obey Christ’s command to share the Gospel and make disciples throughout our lives, whether we are on the mission field abroad, at school, at work or in the home.
